Culture
Evenings: Speakers and performers share their knowledge of one aspect of
culture. You may hear an erhu (two-stringed Chinese
instrument) or a blues guitar; see ethnic dances from a variety of
countries; or learn about the arts or handicrafts of a specific
region.
-
Day
Trippers: Pile into a tour bus and learn more about the historic and
cultural sights around Shenzhen. See ancient forts and
temples; take a walk in the wilderness; or experience how another
culture lives.
-
Exhibitions and Performances:
Visit Shenzhen's many museums or enjoy a musical performance with
others who have similar interests. A meal before or after will
usually be part of the plan.
-
Family
Events: Bring the kids! These events are designed to
give parents and children a chance to meet others. (Singles
welcome, too, of course!)
-
Fun
Nights: Ice-skating, bowling, ping-pong, billiards:
Shenzhen has lots of ways to have fun! Come out and join us as
we explore Shenzhen's less-known ways of relaxing.
-
Holiday Parties:
Family-oriented events for major and minor Chinese and Western holidays.
Learn another culture's customs or observe your own as you celebrate
together.
-
Movie
Nights: Come watch and discuss a movie with others, while
sharing drinks and snacks. A painless way to cross the
cultural divide!
-
Musical
Events: The Laughing Buddha loves music! We will arrange
for everything from live jazz to recorded classical. These
nights differ from the "Cultural Evenings" in that there
is no presentation included, just the music!
-
PARTY!:
Come out and have a ball! Party nights are a chance to meet new
friends or relax with old ones. Some parties will be themed,
others not; some will include games and prizes, others just dancing
and drinking. Whatever the plan, the key ingredient is fun!
-
Vegetarians'
Nights Out: The Laughing Buddha wants to promote healthy
alternatives to the foods we usually eat. One way to do this
is to introduce our friends to the various vegetarian options we've
found in Shenzhen. Join us for an evening of dining and
conversation.
-
Walk
Shenzhen: No one has yet produced a "Walker's Guide
to Shenzhen." We will have to pioneer our own routes as
we seek out interesting sites on walkable routes. Walks will
generally be 2-3 hours long, with a worthy goal at the end.
