What could possibly be new in English salons? This is! Instead of the usual “Chinese-American comparison,” students will first learn something about Western culture (literature, art, history, and philosophy). They will then discuss what they have learned in small groups, exploring their personal responses and, in the process, developing natural comparisons between China and the West. For intermediate and some advanced speakers.

TIME: All meetings begin at 7 p.m. After more than one hour of organized activities, we will open up for Question and Answer and Free Conversation, finishing at 9 p.m.

DISCUSSION LEADER: James will be leading all of these lessons and discussions. He holds a dual Bachelor degree in English and philosophy, as well as a Master of Education degree, and is nearing completion of a PhD. He has been a teacher and trainer since 1981. In that time he has taught in three countries, and his students have included everyone from Kindergarten kids to presidents of multinational corporations. He is currently a professor of English at Shenzhen Polytechnic, and has led hundreds of workshops, salons, classes, and private lessons in Shenzhen since February of 2004.
