Who
comes to The Laughing Buddha?
The Laughing
Buddha has three kinds of guests:
-
Expats:
Foreign residents of Shenzhen seeking a place to “hang out,” to learn about Chinese culture and society, to play a game of cards, join a hobby club, or swap information.
-
English-Speaking Chinese:
Many Shenzheners are ready to take their English beyond the classroom and out into the mainstream of Shenzhen life.
The Laughing Buddha can help them polish their everyday English skills through creative opportunities, English salons, discussions and English lessons.
-
Travelers:
Business travelers and tourists often need a "contact point" where they can learn more about the local area.
The Laughing Buddha offers information and assistance to travelers, both in person and on line. Foreign and Chinese visitors will find a friendly face that makes them feel at home.
Although The Laughing Buddha
is a new enterprise, James, its director, has been operating activities
since his arrival in Shenzhen. Here are some quotes from friends about past events:

Jon and
our friend Lucy
at a recent party |
"The first time I met James, he was leading an English Salon on the topic of
'Love.' In the first 5 minutes of the presentation, I said, 'this guy knows his stuff--e.g. Joseph
Campbell, etc...He must be a minister or a teacher or BOTH???' Excellent presentation! The second time I met James he was the master of ceremonies at a Jazz club singing (we were having too good of a time to
complain). The turn out was great, I met new Shenzhen friends and was able to network my
business. The third time I met James he was hosting a party and was stuffing himself with bean
burritos. Then he said something about blending up a batch of
Margaritas!!! ..... I recall they were pretty good too!!!"

"I have had several opportunities to join James and a mixture of friends from many countries dining out in vegetarian restaurants, or taking short trips around Shenzhen. I really enjoy it, and look forward to more activities, because with James you always can talk about everything and share your life experience.
And if you need some good advice, look for James..."

"James' parties are the best! I really enjoy meeting a mix of new friends while relaxing in a pleasant
environment. James has taken really good care of me. He is
so kind, and very nice! I feel very comfortable with him!"
-- "Rachel" (范少媛 -
FAN ShaoYuan), Chinese
civil servant |
"I have joined several of James' excursions both inside and outside Shenzhen's Special Economic Zone. The trips to Dapeng Fortress and the Hakka Houses in Longgang were especially interesting. Thanks, James!"
