James Baquet
has wide experience in education and management, so in addition to organizing
The Laughing Buddha’s activities, he will also teach many of the lessons and lead many of the discussions himself, while coordinating with other teachers, performers, and tour leaders to offer the best in high-quality activities.
James holds a Bachelor of Art degree in two majors, English and philosophy, and a Master of Education degree. In addition he has studied art and photography, management, and theology. Most recently, he completed the coursework for a PhD in Buddhist studies.
He has taught at the elementary, secondary, and college levels for
over 25 years, teaching English, government, biology, history, religion, and photography. He has been
a private tutor, and has taught English as a second language to Asian students, for five years in Japan, two years in America, and is now in his
third year in Shenzhen. Since his arrival in Shenzhen in February of 2004, he has taught well over
2,000 students, in college classrooms, corporate training centers, and private homes. He has also presented numerous workshops and salons, and consulted on various educational issues.
As for management experience, James briefly managed a fast-food restaurant in his youth. He served two years as Dean of a high school, and at age 29 he became principal of an elementary school. At age 44, he moved into management in educational businesses, including language schools in Japan and America.
Aside from these professional accomplishments, James has pursued many hobbies that contribute to
The Laughing Buddha’s operations, including: music, writing, photography, and the continuing study of all aspects of Western and Eastern culture.
