The Places We Meet
All of Shenzhen—and
Beyond!—
is a Playground for The Laughing Buddha
In the early stages of planning
The Laughing Buddha, we considered opening our own place. But in the spirit of
the original Laughing Buddha, that jolly Wandering Monk, we finally decided that to have a brick-and-mortar location would be too limiting.
Instead, with the cooperation of local business owners, and taking liberal advantage of public space, we have planned our activities in a variety of venues.
Here are some of our places:
-
Various Restaurants: Our popular
"Vegetarians’ Night Out" series is held bi-monthly in Shenzhen's best vegetarian restaurants. A mix of Chinese (Buddhist), Indian, Thai, and other cuisines are shared by groups of
The Laughing Buddha’s friends. See the Calendar for details.
-
Historical
and Cultural Sites in Shenzhen and Beyond:
Dapeng
Fortress and the Hakka Houses in Longgang; the Phoenix and Dragon
Temples of Bao'an; the Nanshe Ancient Village of Dongguan; the Old
Fort and Emperor's Tomb, with many other temples and sites within
the Special Economic Zone: these and many more are the destinations
of The Laughing Buddha’s "Day
Trippers"
and "Walk
Shenzhen"
programs.
-
Museums and
Performance Halls:
The Laughing Buddha will invite our friends to a wealth of
Exhibitions and
Performances, often combined with a lunch or dinner opportunity. These outings will mix Chinese and foreign friends, allowing for cultural exchange.
See this month's Calendar page for details of events, places, and times.
