Past Events

12/9 Saturday, December 9, 10 a.m.-12 noon: Tour: Hong Fa Temple

Meet at the front gate of Xian Hu (Fairy Lake) Park at 10 a.m.; bring 20 yuan Park entry fee plus 4 yuan for the shuttle bus inside the park (2 yuan each way).

James studied for a PhD in Buddhism, and a large part of his studies was learning about the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, their imagery and stories. On this tour, James will tell the stories of each of the major figures in the temple. Participants will also be invited to share what they know to make this a full, rich experience for everyone. We may stay afterward for lunch in the temple's restaurant, or have lunch together somewhere in the city.

Getting there: These buses go to Fairy Lake Park:

  • 57: Starts in He Wei Village in Luohu, goes down Baoan Nan Lu past Sungang and Tianbei (Route in Chinese; scroll down to 57)

  • 65: Starts in Shang Sha Village, up to Hongli Lu, past Lotus Hill and the old Library, Baoan Nan (Bei?) Lu, down to the Luohu Sports center (Route in Chinese; scroll down to 65)

  • 218: Starts in Meilin, runs through northern Luohu (Yuan Ling, Sun Gang, etc) (Route in Chinese; scroll down to 218)

  • 220: Starts at Luohu Train Station, runs along east Shennan (Route in Chinese; scroll down to 220)

  • 382: Starts in Xili; loops out to Baoan, through Nanshan, then along Bin He  (Route in Chinese; scroll down to 382)

Seems complicated, I know. Basically, if you can get to east Shennan (past Wenjin Lu) you can catch several of these buses. One good way would be to catch 103 somewhere along central Shennan and take it to Luohu Ti Yu Guan. From there you can change to several of the buses listed here.

Or, if you live near Binhe Road in central Futian, just jump on the 382.

By taxi (around 30-40 from Lao Jie Metro Station) tell the driver "Xian Hu" (sounds like "Shyen who").

Location: Hong Fa Temple in Fairy Lake (Xian Hu) Park, in far eastern Shenzhen.
