out the new site from The Laughing Buddha! LIFESiZE: LIFE in ShenZhen for Expats Museums + Temples + "Culture Parks" (See also Movies on the Entertainment and Leisure page) Welcome to the "Survival Kit" for Shenzhen Expats! Despite its reputation as a "Special Economic Zone," Shenzhen has begun to enter a more sophisticated phase, and cultural resources are springing up everywhere. They are still a bit hard to find, though. I have listed below as many as I can find, but I cannot keep up with a list of their changing offerings! The "What's On" listings in the Shenzhen Daily (html/pdf) are one resource; but they seem to take their information from this page. Although it's a bit hard to read at first, once you get the hang of it you will find English listings for a lot of the exhibitions and performances around town.
Museums: Despite my avowed interest in Culture with a capital "C," I have actually only visited one of the formal art museums listed below in my year-and-a-half here. Shame on me. (But I have been to some of the historical museums listed here.) Anyhow, from various resources, here is a list of Museums in Shenzhen. Quite a few of these have "Unknowns" and descriptions are lacking. More information will be added after I actually visit them (blush).
Temples: In another of my concurrent incarnations, I am known as The Temple Guy. That page has more on temples than I can ever remember writing. But as this is a Shenzhen-oriented website, let me concentrate on the six real (and two fake) temples located inside the Special Economic Zone. In addition, I have written pages on a couple of Temples in Longgang, and will ultimately be adding pages on a couple in Bao'an. The links below lead to either a summary page here in LIFESiZE, or to the more extensive pages in The Temple Guy (if available) Watch here for links Watch here for links
